Cyclebar opened a new location at Union Station in Downtown Denver and knew that polished concrete would be the best performing floor option for their front entry and storefront area. The owner knew they wanted a decorative design element to the floor to give the floor more depth and to stand out. After speaking with the owner of the location and settling on a final design, we got to work.
We started by cutting bands in our predetermined locations through the utilization of lasers and a track saw to keep the lines straight and neatly done. We then polished the entire space to a 200 grit and got to work prepping off our saw cut bands for stain. Prep is one of the most important steps of any process, ensuring the final outcome matches the customers vision. We applied a Prosoco Gemtone stain in Onyx to really help the bands pop against a natural floor. After the stain was down a Prosoco Densifier was applied to help lock in stain and help harden the slab as a whole. Densification is an important step on all polishes and should not be overlooked. After densifier we finished honing the slab to an 800 grit and applied a Prosoco Polish Guard combined with Prosoco Concrete Protector SB to help mitigate damage from salt and other contaminants that can occur, especially in Denver’s winter climates. Knowledge, skill, and teamwork all played crucial roles in completing this project. This floor will hold up to the hundreds of people that use it every day, and stay looking good for years and years to come.
